About Basil Restaurant

Basil, opened in 2009, is modeled after our most recent Chicago restaurant, Thai Village, which opened in 1997. My mom, Judy Ruanphae, opened many restaurants prior to Thai Village. All still remain successfull restaurants under their new owners. Thai Valley 1, Thai Valley 2, Thai Lagoon, Thai Eatery, Thai Village and finally Basil, here in Columbus. She started the restaurant after 15 years of working as a registered nurse. My father, Sam Ruanphae, was working as an electrical engineer and started full time at the restaurant shortly after opening Thai Valley 1. My mom has always tried to make all of her restaurants a comfortable and inviting place that focuses on the wide variety that Thai food can offer.

For Basil, I borrowed from the recipes and success of my mom while offering a truly unique atmosphere. The space, an old antique store, uncovered many hidden treasures. The original wood floors, distressed brick, and exposed ductwork, were used in combination with a few touches of our own. If you haven't been in yet, I encourage you to drop by for a great experience.
